Modular Process Design/Build

Step 5: Modular Fabrication

EPIC will build your process system faster, with higher quality and lower cost. How? Our on-site fabrication plant and our modular approach provide a time-savings advantage complimented by production-quality fabrication. EPIC has both a stainless steel shop and a carbon steel shop, to ensure skid system fabrication integrity of construction.

Why A Modular Process Approach?

Modular process fabricators features off-site construction and an integration process for skid systems. It reduces traditional downtime through parallel design and construction. Finished process plants are brought to site much faster when compared to traditional plant expansion techniques.

The main advantages of modular construction include:

  • Faster time to market through parallel construction, minimized start-up time, and elimination of weather delays
  • Reduced costs – short project timelines mean less cost, and off-site fabrication does not interrupt current operations
  • High quality assembly & fabrication – welding/pipefitting performed under ideal conditions in the fabrication plant by highly trained modular assembly craftsmen
  • Safer construction – fewer onsite OSHA exposure hours with off-site skid construction, ideal working conditions exist 24/7 in our plant and systems are fully tested before leaving
  • Less resource requirementsmaterial waste is reduced through production-style construction, smaller field crews are required and less on-site space is needed when skids are built off-site

Best Practices in Modular Skid System Fabrication

EPIC follows best practices during the fabrication and assembly of all modular process skid systems that we build.  Some of these fabrication steps include, but are not limited to:

  • Electrical wiring per NFPA National Electric Code
  • Insulation
  • Instrumentation
  • Mechanical assembly
  • Painting
  • Piping
  • Sheet metal fabrication
  • Structural fabrication
  • Tubing

Distillation System in EPIC's Fabrication PlantEPIC’s Fabrication Plant Advantage

EPIC’s custom fabrication plant allows EPIC to complete all projects in-house. Our production-style fabrication techniques, in a controlled plant environment, provide several advantages to our clients process skids:

  • Higher quality achieved through controlled, production style construction of the system without interrupting or shutting down pre-existing operations
  • Shortened project timelines attained in-house through simultaneous skid fabrication with site civil & facilities engineering
  • Weather delays eliminated during fabrication as projects are completed indoors
  • Lower capital and labor costs are achieved through efficient use of material and smaller field crews
  • Seamless project management is achieved, from start to finish, by housing the fabrication plant in the same building as the engineering offices. This allows clear communication between the project engineers and the plant fabrication and assembly team
  • For multi-unit projects, maximum capital efficiency is achieved by designing one template and building exact duplicates
  • Systems undergo full process system testing and checkout prior to shipment, providing fast startup
  • Our Quality Assurance Program ensures project integrity throughout the fabrication, assembly and testing process
  • Safety risks are reduced for plant personnel with fewer onsite OSHA exposure hours and smaller crew sizes
  • Secrecy of process technology is protected as fabrication occurs in a secure environment

Quality Assurance

EPIC follows a strict quality assurance (QA) policy during the project stages to guarantee the success of skid mounted systems through:

  • Component inspection
  • Part fabrication
  • Plant construction management
  • Plant installation
  • Project staging
  • Receiving
  • System fabrication and assembly
  • System shipment
