Equipment & Instrumentation Selection

EPIC checks in new equipment and instrumentation for a sanitary process skidEPIC engineers have the unique advantage of being experienced in client side operations and integration of equipment during project management. From working with process equipment on the plant floor, we understand what parts and components work best to meet specific objectives. Equipment should always be chosen by project engineers based upon a checklist of operational concerns:

  • Suitability to task
  • Compatibility with chemicals
  • Simple function
  • Throughput capability
  • Brand and equipment reputation
  • Long-term ease of maintenance
  • Operational history
  • A network of consultants and vendors with additional experience

Process equipment is selected based upon lowest total cost of ownership over the lifetime of the process equipment design as opposed to the lowest upfront cost. When commercially available, standard, pre-assembled equipment is first-specified to meet client needs. If an equipment piece does not exist to meet a need, EPIC designs custom process machinery for seamless integration into the plant or process skid.

Upon final approval of the process system design, long-lead parts are ordered to keep skid completion on target. EPIC maintains all vendor correspondence from placing orders to part delivery.

Equipment Procurement Policy

At EPIC, procurement is completed by our engineers, not a purchasing . We keep equipment costs low by maintaining vendor neutrality; we are not a partner-distributor for specified machinery, parts, or other equipment.

EPIC’s approach to process equipment procurement results in worry-free project management to keep your manufacturing project running on budget and provides the best value over the life of your process plant or manufacturing skid.

Industrial Instrumentation

instrumentation on process skidOur engineers ensure that your process skid has accurate instruments to observe, measure, position, record and command the intricacies involved with the process technology. We automate and integrate the process with our experienced automation, electronics and instrumentation engineering team.

From simple valves to multifaceted transmitters and analyzers, EPIC’s engineers understand how to implement process instrumentation devices to change field parameters. Whether your process requires isolated or automated control, EPIC integrates instrumentation that is controlled directly or via PLC, DCS, PC or other control system. These requirements depend on your automation and platform preferences and take into account existing platforms. Our expertise includes:

  • Brix
  • Color
  • Concentration
  • Conductivity
  • Density
  • Dew-point
  • Flow
  • Humidity
  • Infrared or ultraviolet spectral response
  • Level Measurement
  • ORP
  • pH
  • Position
  • Pressure
  • Refractory index
  • Reserve alkalinity
  • Salinity
  • Temperature
  • Vacuum
  • Weight

Whether you want to measure pressure, temperature, flow or level, we will integrate unique process instruments from a wide range of vendors. To complement our range, we also integrate electro-pneumatic positioners, process controllers and process recorders.

EPIC understands how to process raw data into higher level variables to create a more intuitive user experience for plant operators and managers. Instrument calibrations are verified at EPIC using NIST-traceable calibration meters for sustained efficiency.
