Stepping Towards the Right Distillation Column

The EPIC Modular Process team has worked hard to have extensive distillation experience in their repertoire of engineering capabilities. Putting them a notch above others, these engineers have a full understanding of a client’s needs in the efficiency of separating elements at large scales. EPIC is able to accomplish a full comprehension by keeping an open-door policy with each client to develop everything from detailed 3-D models to custom fabricated solutions that best fit the needs of each project.

To meet the needs of each client, there are key parameters that are needed from each customer that help the process of completing a distillation system on schedule:

  • EPIC-distillation-stepsFeed steam composition
  • Solid particle distribution
  • Required product purity
  • Acceptable product losses
  • Physical property data
  • Throughput or payload
  • Operation philosophy
  • Interface to existing processes
  • Preferred automation platform (PLC, DCS, etc.)
  • Space limitations
  • NFPA area classification
  • Available utilities
  • Waste handling

An EPIC engineer takes this information and implements it into simulation software, Aspen Hysys,  and develops a proposed separation strategy. From here the EPIC modular team uses these steps to produce a scaled-up distillation system from lab to pilot plant production or pilot to full production plant scale:

  • Mass and energy balances are developed
  • Detailed P& ID’s created
  • EPIC’s control engineering team designs and implements a strategy custom fitting to each system
  • Process modules are then fabricated and constructed under ideal conditions per ASME requirements
  • Modules are loaded and shipped worldwide from the EPIC fabrication shop
  • EPIC engineers then provide critical start-up coverage

EPIC uses sensible engineering tactics for all distillation projects. You provide the technology and then EPIC takes care of rest. Talk to an EPIC engineer today about your distillation needs or upcoming projects. Below is a video that gives a detailed look at working with EPIC engineers and the steps they for distillation success.
